The damage defect insurance policy (assurance dommages-ouvrage) MUST
be
provided with every new build property in France, and is included within the cost of
your new home. It ensures that you will be reimbursed quickly in the
event of a claim, without having to wait for a court verdict.
If you use an uninsured
builder and decide to sell within 10 years it may make it more difficult to
do so, and the buyer may want to negotiate a lower price to take into
account this lack of insurance.
It is also possible that a new owner could seek legal redress against you in
the event that major defects become apparent.
